“Big Skies”

New Pastels by Nick Serratore

November 6 - 21, 2021

We are excited to host a solo exhibition of pastel landscapes by acclaimed local artist, Nick Serratore. “Big Skies” features brand new artworks from Nick that capture the ever-changing beauty of our vast sky.

Nick interprets the world in sublime technicolor, translating the natural world into bold color palettes, fluid movements, and rich textures. In “Big Skies,” Nick depicts the many variations of the sky throughout the year, from glaring summer suns to hazy winter days, lush spring evenings and vibrant autumn moons.

Nick’s landscapes transcend location, allowing you to find some sense of familiarity and nostalgia in his representations of our shared Earth. The works featured in this exhibition share that sentiment, as each painting feels like home despite not having a defined location.

Nick Serratore graduated from the Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia and Wilmington University. He works primarily in pastels — a medium he feels is able to capture the tactile experience and majesty of the grand landscapes he depicts. He takes inspiration from the places and environments where he is located, saying: “as a landscape painter, nature has always played a part in how I think and feel. It has always been a favorite allegorical vessel whether it’s deeply personal or simply capturing the changing surroundings.” Over the years, Nick has featured in multiple solo exhibitions, participated in various charitable events, and won numerous awards. He is a member of the Pastel Society of America in New York.

Nick’s ultimate goal is to convey the mood of a setting through hue and texture. He states, “what I observe at any moment leads to an experience. These experiences act as a guide, which allows me to interpret my own vision through painting.” Seeing Nick’s pastel paintings is an all-around sensational encounter, which excels the traditional art-viewing experience.
