Pastel Artist Nick Serratore Exhibits Imaginative Landscapes

November 4 - 21, 2023

After a sold-out show in 2021, Nick Serratore returns to the Peninsula Gallery’s exhibition space for another solo show. “Dreamscapes” includes over 20 new pastel paintings from Nick that transport viewers into a dreamy world of vivid colors and sweeping landscapes.

Nick interprets the world in sublime technicolor, translating the natural world into bold palettes, fluid movements, and rich textures. In “Dreamscapes,” Nick takes his iconic landscape paintings but adds an element of romantic haze that lulls the viewer into these serene, untroubled places. Nick’s landscapes transcend location, allowing you to find some sense of familiarity and nostalgia in his representations of our shared Earth. The works featured in this exhibition share that sentiment, as each painting feels like home despite not having a defined location.

Nick Serratore graduated from the Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia and Wilmington University. He works primarily in pastels — a medium he feels can capture the tactile experience and majesty of the grand landscapes he depicts. He takes inspiration from the places and environments here in our beautiful region of the world, saying: “It is difficult to describe in words the colors of the seasonal skies of Sussex County. The hues of greens, browns, and golds found in a planted field are equally indescribable. When these scenes are punctuated by a weathered old barn or silo, the overall impression is mystical. The textures of a plowed field, an isolated woodland, or a crashing ocean wave are again so varied that even photographs are unable to do them justice. The flat plane of the earth here gives light and shadow a multitude of opportunities to do their play.”

Over the years, Nick has featured in multiple solo exhibitions, participated in various charitable events, and won numerous awards. This is Nick's 3rd solo exhibition at Peninsula Gallery, with his work being shown year-round as a resident artist. He is a member of the Pastel Society of America in New York.

Nick’s ultimate goal is to convey the mood of a setting through hue and texture. He states, “I render seemingly commonplace views summoning both serenity and energy. Time, place, and subject matter guide my inspiration and dictate whether the scene will be soft and suggestive, or bold and commanding. Moods, thoughts, memories, and emotions are captured in each painting allowing the viewer to become immersed in their own experience.” Seeing Nick’s pastel paintings is an all-around sensational encounter, which excels in the traditional art-viewing experience.
