Carol Lehmann
Largely self-taught, Carol Lehmann truly believes that the art of craft is not just a ‘nice’ activity — it transforms, connects, and empowers her to explore different mediums and techniques without reserve. The artistry of craft makes her feel so fundamentally satisfied. By using her hands to manipulate materials and make use of tools to extend her abilities, she is impassioned about putting her artwork out into the world for others to share and enjoy.

Carol is a multi-disciplined artist. For many years, her main area of focus was creating fused glass in her studio located in Bozeman, north of Yellowstone Park. Her work could be found in galleries and exhibits throughout Montana and the Northwest. As an Artist in Residence at local elementary schools, Carol enjoyed working with children to inspire their creativity and sharing the process of working with your hands. After selling her Montana studio, downsizing, and moving to the Delaware Bay, her growing portfolio now includes works in encaustic, collage, sculpture, and unique copper enameled jewelry.

Carol's Montage Work

Carol’s work uses a variety of decorative and vintage papers, such as screen-printed Chiyogami, Indian, Lokta, Mulberry, papers with natural inclusions, natural dried foliage, and handmade vegetable parchment. Each piece of paper is cut or torn into shapes, layered, with some being hand or machine stitched to give detail to the shapes. The paper is then reassembled, creating depth and a unique design. The final layer is encaustic wax medium, and incised detailing to bring out certain features of the finished piece.

Carol's Assemblage Chirrups

Each Chirrup is started using recycled materials, air-dry clay, and plaster. The clay is textured and finished with a patina or finishing wax. Wings and tail pieces are created from vintage biscuit tins and other collected doo-dads. Lastly, the bird is mounted on a unique decorative perch.
