Hands We are excited to announce our new exhibit opening on Saturday, September 1. “Creative Hands” is a first for us in that it is a three dimensional exhibit. We have brought together eleven exceptional craft artists, both from within Delaware and from further a field. You will find ceramics, fiber, glass, steel, stoneware and wood. Not all the images for the show are available at this time. We will be adding to the list below as they come to us, so please be patient and check back later to see more work, and please do join us for the opening reception on Saturday, September 1st, from 5-7 pm.
Deborah Appleby (hand blown glass)
Deb is already represented in the gallery, but
for this exhibition she has created some extraordinary new work not seen in
Delaware before. Images will be posted as soon as possible
Alan Burslem (stoneware) Alan has been making functional and hand made stoneware for more than 30 years. Because he uses glazes that are made from non-toxic materials, much of his work is designed for use in the home.
John Flournoy ( Fiber Art )
John expresses his fiber art through the technique
of rug hooking which he loves for its texture and unique tactile quality.
His imagery mostly explores the architectural form he has observed in places
he has visited.
John Lester (wood sculpture)
John is better known as an architectural
designer and few people have seen the more abstract, but architectural based,
colorful wood and treated paper pieces that he has created. Some are
small enough to fit on a table or shelf, while others are as large as 8 feet
in height and would make a major statement in an open plan home.

Mark Gardner (wood turner)
Mark comes from Saluda, North Carolina and has
been working with wood since the early 1990's. He is attracted to the
rhythm of the repeated patterns found on various ceremonial objects,
particularly those found in Benin, Africa and in the islands of the South
Pacific.
Owen Pach (hand blown glass)
Owen is coming from Philadelphia where he is a
partner in East Falls Glassworks. He has been involved in hot glass for
more than 20 years, first in Florida, then at Penland and now in Philadelphia.
The majority of his work is decorative rather than functional. Images
will be posted as soon as possible.
Steve Rogers (scale model wood boats)
Steve is also represented in the gallery, but
with his paintings and not his ship models. He has promised us three
models which he is still working on and therefore we have no images to show
you at the moment.
Wes Stack (Ceramics) Wes has been a sculptor for several years, most recently
working in clay. His work in this show represents both sagger and pit firing
techniques.
Erika Strecker (steel)
Erika come from Lexington, Kentucky where she has
a studio/gallery. Working primarily in steel she makes functional
objects for the home as well as custom made pieces, including outdoor
sculptures.
Betsey VonDreele (fiber art)
Betsey specializes in textile landscapes. She takes scraps of fabric
and other natural materials and hand sews or fuses them in layers to build up
a third dimension
Barbara Warden (fiber art)
Barbara's work as an artist span 3 decades and started in painting.
She moved on to quilting nearly 10 years ago, realizing that it could be
another way to approach painting using color, line, texture but with a three
dimensional design. Her work is influenced by contemporary abstract
painting and comes framed or as wall hangings.
There will be 3 more wall hangings in the show. Photos are not yet available.
